The whole Motown family have a special place in the soundtrack of my memories from the sixties. What a voice she has!
Motown definetly led the way and had a classically unique sound that found a wide audience. Aretha Franklins roots were in Memphis. Her first recordings though were with Atlantic in NYC. I don’t think she did anything with Berry Gordy until she was a well established star.
