Pits make poor pets. I know, because I own one. You can’t let them run loose. They have to be contained in a space. Which, is one reason (of many) they make poor pets because they need a lot of space. Unfortunately, many people just let them run loose.

I’ve trained dogs for years, and I have experience physically dealing with attacking dogs. Our dog is a runt at 60 lbs. I’m 6’1” and 250 lbs and it’s all I can do to buffalo him to the ground without getting bit (much). I can’t imagine having to physically control him if he was any bigger. Most of your average pit bulls weigh between 80-100 lbs.
