They’re wonderful, affectionate pooches until the switch flips and they kill or maim someone or something in a few seconds. I’ve seen it firsthand with a pitbull I spent many hours around. Anyone who allows one into a nursing home is crazy.
My corgi was nearly killed by a pit she had been friends with for years. We sat outside at community table for iced tea many afternoons and the neighborhood pups played together.
One afternoon after playing, the pups lay down at our feet. They had done this same thing month after month for a couple of years. Nothing was different. The pit sat up and her head kind of swayed, she looked at my corgi and lunged for her throat. It took 2 strong men to get her off. We rushed my dog to the vet, she had surgery and eventually her throat, neck and shoulder healed.
The pit was the only one I’d ever trusted. Friendly, funny, often sweet. But she had that inexplicable pit moment and became a monster. I had another dog attacked by a pit many years before, pit jumped the fence but my dog ran through the doggie door which the pit couldn’t get through.
They’re banned in my county but I see plenty of them. Pit bulls cannot be trusted. I don’t care if it’s in their genes or what the owners do or don’t do, I don’t want them near me, or my dogs.
These poor creatures have earned their reputation.
