ORANGE BEACH, Alabama --
A bridegroom has been credited with saving a struggling swimmer just moments after his beach wedding on the Gulf Coast last week.
Zac and Cindy Edwards had just gotten married at Orange Beach, Alabama, and were taking wedding photos when a woman came up and said someone was struggling in the surf, WALA-TV reported .
Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Zac Edwards is a former lifeguard, so he stripped off his shirt and went in after the swimmer. Edwards got to the person, but then had a hard time making it back to shore.

This is a heartwarming story of a good guy right after his wedding coming to the rescue of someone who probably would have drowned without his help.
Wife says she got a hero and a hubby all in one day.
What a great guy, he worried about getting blood on her dress.
Yep. And he said in the video that his wife was his hero every day!
Nice to read a good story these days.
I can imagine someone in this situation thinking, “What will I do for an encore?”
OR
“Did I set the bar a little bit too high?”
.
Seriously, this is a great feel-good story.
thanks for sharing this.
Yes it is! A nice read.
...so he stripped off his shirt and went in after the swimmer..”
Hope he took off his pants and shoes too. It’s a bitch to swim with those on.
You’re very welcome.
Let's high-five everybody, including God Almighty.
"Those aren't buoys, you know."
Isn’t that the truth! That swimmer needs to thank God for his rescue for sure. The video said first responders were not there for this rescue because they were off rescuing someone else. This groom was just the right person at just the right time and place.
Thank God! And a High Five back to ya.
The video says his wife told him he didn’t have time to take off his pants.....but am sure he got rid of his shoes.....
Good for the groom. I’ve noticed a good many weddings on the beach at Orange Beach over the last few years.
I was a life guard for two summers in Chicago on Lake Michigan. Did most of the work in a row boat. No way in hell would I go in with pants and shoes on.
Roll Tide!
A hole-in-one!
Yeah baby.
Seems NC is not the only state this summer with struggling swimmers.
Several people a year drown on the beaches in Alabama and northwest Florida. Mostly tourists but some locals as well. We have some hellacious rip tides. The ones on the east coast seem to get more national media attention. I think this year may have been exceptionally bad for them.
