As the 10th anniversary of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games approaches, its legacy remains unmistakable from the smallest alleyways in the Chinese capital to the country's growing clout abroad.
However, since the high of the capital's enthusiasm for the Games, many of the venues built for the lavish event have fallen into disrepair, leaving them unloved and abandoned.
Logos bearing 'Beijing 2008' were left rusting at the deserted beach volleyball stadium in the city centre and broken statues of the Olympic mascots were left lying among trees behind unfinished buildings.

The same thing happened to the World’s Fair sites.
It’s all a waste of money.
Same thing is happening down in Rio.
If a city is going to host either, they should have a long term plan to build enough quality venues to spur development after the events are over.
Not every venue has to be cheap 'world class' short use projects. Offer real businesses the opportunity to build for the future. If done right, it's a good way to improve infrastructure for the long term.

1984 Archery venue, 1/4 mile from my house is still used for archery.
I think the Olympics should rotate between 3-4 different venues so there is a reason for upkeep of those facilities.
Lake Placid NY is still making mega-$$$ from the Winter Olympics they had there back in 1980. Best thing to happen to that area.
The Olympics should be permanently in Greece.
One of the Greek islands should be kitted out as the permanent summer Olympics site. When the Olympics aren’t there it can be a resort.
Same thing is happening down in Rio.
True, but this ten years after the events.
Rio was turning into crap before the start of the events.
