What the heck were you listen to back in the 1970s, Doc? Because I sure don’t remember any of those songs on any Dionne Warwick or Carpenters album.

My folks had the Dionne Warwick 8-Track. My sister sang with the Carpenters when they toured and needed a children's chorus for "Sing". I was offered the chance and turned it down.
I got exposure to those and other really strange pieces (e.g. Troglodyte [Caveman]/Jimmy Castor Bunch) from Casey Kasem's American Top 40. In 1983, I actually got my Long Distance Dedication played. One of the pieces that offended my mother was Ray Stevens' upbeat country flavored version of "Misty". My mother really liked the Johnny Mathis version, and was uncharacteristically affronted by what Ray did to it. Later I had a girlfriend who heard the Ray Stevens' version first, and she found the watery Johnny Mathis version unlistenable.
