Authorities have located the woman they say picked up a live, potentially rabid bat from the floor of a South Jersey supermarket and took it home.
The Elsinboro woman and her family went to The Memorial Hospital of Salem County late Wednesday to seek "medical consultation," according to Salem County Spokeswoman Brenda P. Banks.
Authorities were aggressively searching for the woman because they feared because of the bat's erratic behavior, witnessed by many in the market, it could be rabid.
Bats are nocturnal mammals and their appearance during daylight hours and erratic behavior can sometimes be a sign they are rabid.
Whether the bat was in fact rabid, won't ever be known, officials said. The woman told officials she did what she had planned to do -- take the bat home and release it at dusk.

..dumbazz..
Confused the ‘F’ with the ‘B’ there...
It sounds like something my dumbazz would do.
First thought I had on this thread.
Fatman or Phatmann if you want to moderize the spelling.
Same meaning, though.
She’s a rabid do-gooder.
Life is not a Disney movie.
Maybe the series of rabies shots will put some sense into her.
You’ve got to be pretty dumb to pick up a live bat...
This bat was probably in the same quandary.
I doubt it is sickplus, we also don't know how it was picked up or housed.
Rabies is endemic in bats, not birds, and the bats behavior was erratic.
It's just the way they are "built".
Bats are having a bad time with other diseases besides rabies. I predict this story will end quietly.
Never touch a bat that is not flying around. If they are on the ground they are sick. We have them up here now, this time of year. Love to watch them.
Although rabies is rare in humans in the USA, by far the most common cause is bat bite. Foxes are a distant second.
If the bat was rabid, it is dead by now. Rabies kills quickly - like a day, when symptoms show. It is a serious medical emergency.
Paging Charles Darwin..
Hope she’s ready for the rabies treatment. It’s not pleasent
