Aww, poor thing. My parents got a chow after I went to college, and whenever I came home, it took him a day or two to rembember who I was. Never bitey, but yeah. Other than that, he was a good doggie.

I’d have to say that aside from that (ahem) small issue, of all the dogs my family had, I probably loved him most. I think that if I were able to have a dog myself, (life is too busy) I would love to have a chow.

Any fear and hate mongering post.

That should read 'Another fear and hate mongering post.' My fingers don't always type what I'm thinking.

Seriously; being fearful is really no way to go through life. For those with this phobia; I strongly recommend getting professional help for this mental illness.

This was a completely unprovoked attack by an uncontrolled pit bull upon a working police dog K9.

This is what pit bulls do.

The subject of this thread is self-defense against dogs that commonly attack other dogs, people, livestock, and working dogs. And service dogs.

These are not ordinary dogs. They are a breed-type created to do just what they do every day - attack unprovoked, rip, shred, and kill.

These are not regular dogs. These are pit bulls.

2nd Amendment.

. . .”The bull dog, on the other hand, was created and bred to torture livestock - as far back as 1500, sadistic britons watched bull dogs torture doomed bulls, and bear cubs were raised in Bear Gardens specifically to be tortured by bull dogs. After these barbaric practices were outlawed in 1835, the dog men, needing a new target for their sadism, decided that watching dogs kill other dogs in the fighting pit would be a worthwhile new pastime, and the pit fighting bull dog or “pit bull” was born. The early pit fighters found that mixing terrier with the bull dog made for a more energetic bull dog, creating a more relentless attacker, the pit bull/terrier mix, known as the “Staffordshire Terrier”.

Dog fighters who brought their Staffordshire “pit bull” terriers to the new world renamed them “American Staffordshire Terriers” and to this day, a registered AmStaff can also be dual registered as an “American pit bull terrier”.” . . .

Also had a Newfoundland. Dumb as a post but sweet as could be.

I was in the Columbus Ohio Holiday Inn near the pool a couple of decades back when a kid in the pool [girl, maybe eight years old] started yelling and screaming, aplashing her hands in the water. I wasn't in the way of the dog, but was in line with it. A poolside table with umbrella and four chairs WAS in line, and went flying, as a big black ball headed for the tool in a flash like a torpedo toward a ship. The dog took a leap from the edge of the pool and was alongside the kid in maybe two seconds, and gave her a big black furry pillow to hang onto, and doggie-paddled [how else?] the two of them back over to the edge of the pool.

Turned out the kid had eaten a chocolate Easter bunny whole, choked on it, and gotten a snootful of water in the process, followed by screaming 8-year-old panic.

Good dogs. Good dog, in particular; I would not be surprised a bit if that girl-kid is a mom now, and her kids have a big black lovable fuzzball Newfie as a member of their family, too. And I'm betting your Newf knew his name when he/she heard it from you.

Nice story thanks. Our Newf definitely knew his name, but I actually think he may have been a bit deaf.
