LOL. How many times have we heard that one before, especially in news from Minneapolis. When the media says some heinous murder was committed by a "29-year old Minnesota man" we know immediately they mean a Somalian muslim.

In this instance, I would disagree with your reading. The Toronto view of the world is something like the old Chinese middle-kingdom view of things.
There is Toronto. Toronto is important. The GTA (Greater Toronto Area) is populated by people fortunate enough to be near Toronto and they sort of matter. A few of them matter a lot. The rest of Ontario occasionally may matter. Ottawa may even, on occasion, be worthy of being mentioned by name. The rest of Canada (and the rest of the world) is fortunate to have Toronto, but really isn’t too important.
In one of the articles that I read, it noted that one of the fatalities was from Toronto and one was from the GTA.
