Trying to protect BillyBob.
Poor Billybob.

Would love to have one of those to lose in a canoe in California.
Kindly explain what is an SBR?
Short barreled rifle....sorry. :)
We can’t have them here. They are assaulty.
“They are assaulty.”
Bet they can really pepper a target.
Did you get a holster?
Gardening included in the thread....
Squirrel.
Still.
Later
Good one. Spices.
Had to love the ad that was running with it, Ad Blocker and it was the only Ad running.
Never understood why people like a SBR in 5.56. not all the powder burns by the time the round exits the barrel and this gravely impacts velocity. Gas tube has to be shortened a LOT, and is way closer to the mini-explosion of a discharging round, thus overpassing the action and beating your gas key apart. This could be fixed by a piston kit, assuming they even make one for SBR AR, which I’m sure someone does, but that won’t fix the muzzle velocity you just lost.
The entire point of having a rifle is to utilize it’s round to the fullest extent of the given rounds physics. Lopping off 8 inches of barrel length decreses velocity, range, and many foot pounds of energy.
Want something short? Get a tavor.
Want a compact rifle that give you full power. Try a Kel Tec RFB 26.2 oal, 18 barrel, .308 caliber. Ive had one for 6 years plus an AAC suppressor. It is accurate and hard hitting, and no $200 tax stamp.. It is shorter than my three SBRs.
Probably because I can’t have one here...TBH. :)
Had a CX4 Storm in .40 that was nice. Mags usable in either the carbine or the pistol. Good combo.
Sawing a barrel down and thus reducing ballistic performance for the sake of having a “cool SBR” just doesn’t make sense to me. It’s the counter to having a barrel too long, in which all the powder is burned before your round leaves the barrel. Greatly reduced gas pressures driving the round and vastly increased barrel friction comes into play, and your velocity starts to drop like a rock. I have (and will only buy) 18.5” and 20” barrels on all my 5.56 weapons. I have different parameters for other calibers, but we’re discussing the 5.56.
Velocity is life for the 5.56. it’s too small and light for reduced velocity. What makes it just a good meat ripper is the fact that they travel 3300 ish feet per second, and at only 55 grains, they immediately transfer all their energy, which is pretty immense, into the first thing they hit. At that point they lose ALL their kinetic value, but whatever they contacted is destroyed.
Reducing the speed of a 5.56 doesn’t just make it slower. It transfers much less energy upon impact due to it’s small size and light weight and it becomes a much less efficient round overall.
Other than the cool factor, yeah. Didn’t even go thru the sand bottle did it? Still want one :)
Pistol calibers in something that stumpy actually get a bit better. The Storm I mentioned shot extremely well and very accurately. Had a Holosight on it....awesome weapon.
Benefit of swapping mags with a sidearm too.
Unfortunately, it has a “thumbhole stock”...and is on California’s AWB. Had to leave it behind coming back.
I have an AR pistol with “arm brace”, 8 inch barrel. Lots of fun and shoots reasonably well with good red dot sight. Re: SBR’s, I’d love to have 3. Actually, I already have the “rifles” but with abominable with 16 inch barrels. I have an Israeli Model B Uzi 9mm, with 45 ACP barrel and bolt and 22 LR barrel and bolt. Actually shoots very well with 16 inch barrel, but looks goofy. Picked up a CATCO Sten ages ago and rarely shoot it, but would love to have correct barrel for it. At least the UZI and Sten both have display barrels that look great and original. My third rifle is the Interordnance SR-41, semi-auto representation of the famous Soviet PPSh-41. Mine actually shoots much better than many of them, but lacks the ability to put a display barrel on for the original look. The barrel is made 16 inches long by merely welding on a length of steel tubing. The stinking law is a travesty and serves absolutely no purpose except to harass. If I ever find the time, I’ll pay the ridiculous $200 tax and wait for aeons to get permission to remove the stupid, useless steel tube extension. Total crock of poop. Just because Clyde Barrow sawed off some surplus BAR barrels in the 30’s is no reason to still be harassing lawful citizens in the 21st century.
