Flippin' awesome: Footage of a 1982 cassette player's amazing auto-reverse system has the internet mesmerised The footage shows one of the best auto-reverse systems - by Nakamichi The system on the RX-202 model physically flips the cassette around After the clip was uploaded to Imgur it garnered 100,000 views
There were several purchases that helped people keep up with the Joneses in the 1980s buying SodaStreams, cars with head rests and, of course, cassette players with auto-reverse.
And it seems that the latter is still mesmerising people, because a video of a 1982 auto-reverse system in action has been creating a stir on the internet.
Mind you, it does show one of the best auto-reverse systems available, on the Japanese-made Nakamichi RX-202, which physically flips the cassette around.

Go to the UK Daily Mail source to see the cassette flipping in action. All my auto reverse players had the common type. Auto reverse was a great advance!
Last year I gave one of those away to Goodwill. It sounded awesome, but it has a motor problem that I didn’t want to mess with. At the beginning of a tape it would play for a while and then stop, due to a “flat spot” in the motor, and I didn’t want to mess with it. I had better decks and dumped it.
It was otherwise in perfect condition. I only paid $5 for it at an estate sale.
It was fun to watch but I still do cassette in the same way as some people still do wax cylinders.
Vinyl is different. It’s what I listen to when I’m “just” listening to music.
I prefer the usb drive in my truck. Have 600 songs. I know its a low amount but I eventually plan on loading a couple thousand more onto it.
I recall in 1969 or 1970 being influenced by Consumers Report to buy a cassette player, rather than an 8-track.
I think Columbia House has finally let my membership lapse.....
I sometimes run a CD but most music is Bluetooth from the droid.
Eventually I will have the bulk of my oddball collection on the phone.
You are behind the times — betcha your usb doesn’t auto reverse
Nakamichi made some pretty sweet stereo equipment.
I tested a receiver that had as robust and clear sound as I’ve ever heard. Plenty of power, too.

That makes a lot of noise. One in good condition can be had on ebay for $300.
No but it can random play. 8>)
I prefer the usb. When I blue tooth my iPhone I get to hear all emails and texts coming in. I do use it on occasion
Cool Stuff. I remember having a cassette player in college that was shirt pocket small, barely bigger than the cassettes it played. Dolby B & C and all that good stuff.
Glad it’s a relic of the past now, even though it isn’t perfect, digital is still so much better. And nothing like being able to carry thousands of songs in my pockets instead of a mere 100 minutes.
SodaStream? Those didn’t come around until 2000 or so
In 1970 all my friends had 8-track, but switching tracks in the middle of a song drove me nuts, so I got a Sony TC-30 cassette deck for my old Rambler. I recorded all my own tapes off vinyl. I went through a Realistic, a couple of Nakamichi’s, a Denon, a sony and a couple of Pioneer decks before all was said and done.
The only deck I’ve kept is my Pioneer CT-F1250. It’s not the best sounding deck I’ve ever owned, but it’s the “’59 Cadillac convertible” of Cassetted decks. It’s just cool, and still sounds pretty good. If sound quality is the point, you don’t do cassette.
Flippin’ awesome?
pssh.
Now this. This is Flippin’ awesome:

(A record turntable that turns over the record)
I don't care for the sound of MP3 vs CD. I also listen via USB in my truck, but I only rip my music as .wav files (same files CDs use). I just keep several USB sticks in the glovebox.
Yeah, I knew cassettes were the way to go because I could borrow LPs and record my own tapes. Plus rewind.
And when you’re a poor student and you want all the latest music and some outfit is offering to send you a whole boxful for free...well I suppose the statute of limitations has expired with regard to Columbia House...
I remember when the Nakamichi was he Rolls Royce Maybach of tape decks.
Those of us with terrestrial tape decks could only gape in awe of the quality and the sound
My 8-Track had auto reverse.
