There are some limitations, however. Its range is limited to 25 miles and speed to 62 mph in the U.S. Without restrictions, the specs call for 40-plus hours at 80 mph or more. Flying requires good weather with dry conditions, temperatures above freezing and minimal winds for take-off and landing. Its classification as an ultralight vehicle also means it can’t fly at night or over urban areas in the U.S.
I found its weight at 313 lb (assuming w/o pilot because they talk about 200 lbs. payloadd). Ultra light is max 254 lbs. w/o pilot. This might be able to meet “light sport” classification and I cannot find a minimum weight for light sport. However, Light Sport is described as unpowered or single engine piston. Back Fly is multi motor electric. Light Sport classification would lift a lot of the restrictions. But I do not think there is an existing class that this actually fits. Don’t forget that gravity thing, it has worked every time I have used it.
