The rescuers were aided by a combination of luck and an outpouring of support from a motley group including military experts, international cave-divers, medical personnel and a Thai rock singer and her fan club.
One teamthree U.K. cave divers who had participated in numerous rescues in Europecame at the suggestion of a British spelunker who lives near the caves and had explored them several times...
Another group of Thailand-based cave divers was pulled together by Narinthorn Na Bangchang, a Bangkok-based actress/ singer who saw the boys plight on TV and decided she had to do something.
Ms. Narinthorn flew to Mae Sai the night of June 25 with Ruengrit Changkwanyuen, an IT specialist and diving enthusiast who became a go-to person for the SEALs for information on cave-diving gear and techniques....
Ms. Narinthorn (The singer) helped procure the gear, putting out calls to her fan club over Facebook, for everything from helmets to guide lines. When Ms. Narinthorn asked for 200 regulators and air tanks, her fans and other donors sent more than 400, while others volunteered to drive the equipment from Bangkok to Mae Sai,...
Ben Reymenants, a Belgian diver based in the southern island of Phuket who was one of the people collected by Ms. Narinthorn, recalls that in some places in the cave the current was so strong it ripped off his mask when he turned his head...
At one point, he took a wrong turn and became stuck; his diving partner had to pull him out by the feet, he said. Another time, he thought it would be too dangerous and difficult to go on and was close to giving up, he said... He persevered because it was clear that the Thai SEALs were preparing to go on, he said...

Thai Navy SEALs were quickly trying to learn the basics of cave-divingtheir training is in open water and they had no cave experience...
Four boys were brought out on Sunday, another four Monday and the final four and the teams coach on Tuesday. Aside from low body temperatures and a trace of pneumonia in some, all 13 were deemed in relatively good shape.
“motley”?
Really?
Amazing what average people can do without government interference
This was a very close run thing. I will go to my grave believing that the Lord God was the deciding factor in not losing any of the trapped soccer team. The Lord helped those helping. Other than the miraculous help from the lord, rains could easily have trapped and drowned them all if they had remained trapped much longer.
I know nothing of water pumps, but did they wear down, running 24 hours a day for so long?
This could never have been pulled off in the US. Too much government red tape, too many nosy buttinsky reporters and too many protesters not allowing the rescuers to do their job.
Same here. It was a miracle.
That my friend is a kicker - a kicker of all time...

"Though 'kicker' has long refered to the line above a headline, some have started using the term to describe a surprising or poignant revelation at the end of an article."
Yeah, amazing how in Thailand the Navy Seals train themselves
Yeah, one hour after the last diver came out. It's the sort of stuff that turns atheists into believers.
A lot of atheists will believe they are hallucinating before they admit to having seen a ghost or a miracle.
Just a guess, the temporary power lines running who knows how far, may have an excessive voltage drop; this can heat the motor above normal.
Also, many pumps are designed to work with a given head (resistance), running them wild can give a greater flower, but more motor heat.
Large pumps run 24/7 in lift stations, HVAC equipment and...for years and years.
I had more than the 300-word limit and had to edit, too much.
After posting I noticed my error.
Hence post #3.
Methinks Devine intervention.
So many times it appears “but for the lack of a nail...”
Or the obverse.
My all-time favorite, Lewis and Clark hired Charbonneau and his wife Sacagawea.
Sometime later, while dealing with many hostile Indians...
It is discovered that the Chief is in fact, the long lost brother of Sacagawea.
Methinks Devine intervention.
*Soon after, the pump gave out.*
*Yeah, one hour after the last diver came out.*
Actually, 3 Thai Navy divers and the Aussie doctor were still in there, as well as quite a number of volunteers doing cleanup. Shouts and screams were heard and everyone started hauling arse out of there. The water started rising fast.
Thank God everyone got out...
My guess is that they got clogged with debris. Don’t think you can put a small restrictive filter like on your kitchen faucet...
“Sometime later, while dealing with many hostile Indians...It is discovered that the Chief is in fact, the long lost brother of Sacagawea. One of my all time fave stories.
Actually, Sacagawea had been kidnapped by a raiding party and taken east. It was she who was the long lost sister of the chief. And it was she who recognized him as her brother, and jumped and ran over and began hugging and kissing him. Since the pow-wow was L&C’s attempt to trade for horses to carry their gear over the Rockies, it was heaven-sent for the Expedition.
The value of prayer. God heard all the prayers and responded.
