A Safeway in north Phoenix is burning Wednesday night during the middle of a strong storm hitting the Valley, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.
Fire officials said that firefighters responded to a roof collapse at the grocery store near Northern and 35th Avenues.
Article speaks of heavy rain in Scottsdale today, but I didn’t see any. Nothing like Monday. Today, the West side got the worst of it.
I saw the smoke, it was horrendous, but the storm was almost nonexistent, it may have been a result of the storm Monday, that was a killer storm
BTW I pray everyone got out safe. Lots of people stop off on their way home from work
It was tonights storm. The rain was hit and miss, my area got it tonight but we got hardly any on Monday.
I heard everyone is out.
The fire department response didn’t look very aggressive.
When it’s that far gone, there isn’t much you can do except prevent it from spreading to the surrounding neighborhood.
THIS JUST IN.......
the ribs are ready to serve
Ya’ll come
And the popcorn is a-poppin’, too
Thanks for letting me know.
Weird. There was a big water leak in the store, then something blew up and caught the place on fire.
Local news was reporting lightning strike but heard from another source has leak
No problem.
I, too, heard lightning strike but I guess we will know in the coming days.
The collapsing roof might have broken a big gas main coming into the store and that lit it off.

From that video and the black smoke, it looks like the roof itself was burning. All that good rubber/tar roofing material would smoke real good.
