The interweaving of political/social references and luxe streetwear designs has become the touchstone of Mexican-American designer Willy Chavarria's fashion shows.
For his Fall/Winter 2018 show in February, black and brown models walked down the runway with pained expressions and tears on their faces, possibly symbolizing the effect of police brutality, violence, and other tragedies plaguing minorities.
This season, Willy Chavarria debuted his new soccer-inspired collaboration with sportswear brand Hummel. The political references were still there, including a sweatshirt with the word "American" flipped upside down, another sweatshirt flipped the American flag, and then there was Maxine Waters.
No, not in the flesh but Chavarria paid tribute to the congresswoman by emblazoning a portrait of her on a sleeveless black shirt with the words "Fighter" written above.
Waters has reportedly been the target of death threats recently after urging protesters to call out the Trump administration about its "zero tolerance" immigration policy. "All I have to say is this, if you shoot me you better shoot straight, theres nothing like a wounded animal," she proclaimed on stage at the Families Belong Together rally in Los Angeles earlier this month.
Speaking to WWD, Chavarria said he saluted the fearless leader because she "inspires me not to take st from people." Same, Willy.
"...Willy Chavarria..."
How much does Maxine get for the use of her image?

Maxine is really a Terminator?
Oy! These people!
How can we assist this fine stateswoman in her quest for the 2020 Democrat nomination? I might wear one of these shirts just to help boost her profile.

He may have citizenship, but there’s not much American to him.
The black uprising continues.
Their distress has nothing to do with their über-pampered place in our Affirmative Action, Black Privilege-focused society, and everything to do with the fact that we're white and they're not.
Suck it up, Mandingo. There's a higher power at play here, and blaming "Whitey" is a mangy, amoral mutt that just don't hunt.
The next Versace I’m sure......
Separated at birth.
