President Coolidge crushes PROGRESSIVISM 4 July 1926
If all men are created equal, that is final. If they are endowed with inalienable rights, that is final. If governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, that is final. No advance, no progress can be made beyond these propositions.
Calvin Coolidge
July 4, 1926, was President Coolidge’s 54th birthday. The only President born on the Fourth of July.
Right to the point.
Common sense and reason are not hallmarks of Progressivism.
One of our greatest presidents. Proud to share a birthday with him.
I love Coolidge! He was president when was born and I can’t help but compare him favorably to the RATs who followed him and Hoover (FDR et al). They were Progressives after the image of Woodrow Wilson, one of the worst dictators and abusers of blacks and minorities ever. His motto: “he kept us out of war” was lie of major proportions and his illegal imprisonments of any opponents was plainly unconstitutional.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
Old Silent Cal was Reagan’s favorite. When he got to the White House he had the National Archives dig up his portrait for him to look upon every day.
Great speech!
About the Declaration there is a finality that is exceedingly restful. It is often asserted that the world has made a great deal of progress since 1776, that we have had new thoughts and new experiences which have given us a great advance over the people of that day, and that we may therefore very well discard their conclusions for something more modern. But that reasoning can not be applied to this great charter. If all men are created equal, that is final. If they are endowed with inalienable rights, that is final. If governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, that is final. No advance, no progress can be made beyond these propositions. If anyone wishes to deny their truth or their soundness, the only direction in which he can proceed historically is not forward, but backward toward the time when there was no equality, no rights of the individual, no rule of the people. Those who wish to proceed in that direction can not lay claim to progress. They are reactionary. Their ideas are not more modern, but more ancient, than those of the Revolutionary fathers.
"I bet you couldn't make the President say more than two words."
Woman to Coolidge: "Mr. President, I made a bet with someone who said you wouldn't say more than two words."
Coolidge to woman: "You lose."
Silent Cal, the LAST Constitutional POTUS!
Would that TRUMP could return us to those days of yesteryear!
“That is final.”
All the rest is just diluting those simple propositions and thereby violating them.
Thanks for sharing, makes my day!
truth from “Silent” Cal. #6 on my greatest presidents list.
