SIERRA VISTA — A Sierra Vista man was arrested on Thursday night after leaving the scene of a collision and leading law enforcement officers on a brief pursuit that ended on Fort Huachuca.
The Sierra Vista Police Department responded to the intersection of Fry Boulevard and Buffalo Soldier Trail at about 5:15 p.m. on Thursday for a report of a two-vehicle collision. Witnesses told the officers that a Toyota 4Runner T-boned another vehicle and then left the scene heading northbound on Buffalo Soldier Trail.
An SVPD officer in the area of Highway 90 and Buffalo Soldier Trail located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop north of that intersection.
The driver of the 4Runner refused to pull over for the officer, who had their emergency lights and siren activated, and continued north on Highway 90. At mile marker 316, just south of Airport Road, the 4Runner left the roadway, broke through a barbed wire fence, and continued onto a dirt road in the East Range of Fort Huachuca.
The Fort Huachuca Military Police immediately responded and took the driver, identified as 47-year-old Sierra Vista resident Benjamin Colombe, into custody after a brief vehicle and foot pursuit. He was later turned over to the Sierra Vista Police Department and booked into Cochise County Jail on charges of leaving the scene of an accident and unlawful flight from pursuing law enforcement.
