The day after the November 2016 election, liberal pundits re-assured Democrats that, while they may feel miserable at the moment, that melancholy was temporary. Research has consistently shown that, following an unwelcome shock, most people rapidly return to their baseline level of happiness.
Confirming that truism, in 2012, disappointed Mitt Romney voters bounced back quite quickly. But in this realm, as in so many others, it turns out the Donald Trump era is different.
A new study reports Americans who voted for Hillary Clinton suffered a substantial dip in happiness that persisted for at least six months after the election.
Not surprisingly, self-reported happiness plunged among Clinton supporters the week of the election. But the scale of the decline was, to use a Trumpian term, "yuge."
Lench and her colleagues note that, in a famous 1978 study, "people who had become quadriplegic within the last year reported lower happiness than controls and lottery winners by a difference of about 17 percent on their scale."
In comparison, "Clinton supporters reported about a 24 percent decrease in happiness during the week after the election on the scale in the present investigation."
For them, losing to Trump was the equivalent of losing use of their arms and legsand then some.

Mentally ill people are mentally ill. Film at 11.
May they twist in agony forever.
“A new study reports Americans who voted for Hillary Clinton suffered a substantial dip in happiness that persisted for at least six months after the election”.........Guess that would have to be because of something inferior in their mental process.
Tough toenails proglibs.
Nobody gave a rat about what solid American Citizens felt living through 8 years of little bammy.
I had EIGHT YEARS of the Kenyanesian Usurpation with an ineligible British subject/Kenyan/Indonesian in the White House in violation of the Constitution with the approval of BOTH parties.
Especially thanks to the lying, sleazy media who consistently predicted that Clinton would win.
They are still in denial and just as clueless on how the most perfect candidate ever could possibly have lost.
Don’t worry, be happy...
Why didn’t the Republicans in the Senate get that straightened out? ;-)
Always a good time to go on YouTube and watch a few hours of election night reporting and see the disbelief and liberal tears !
When power and politics are your religion its gonna be bad when things dont go your way.
Yeah well after 8 years of Obama, I experienced a jump in happiness of several orders of magnitude. As job searches became easier and as my income increased 20% in the last year thanks to President Trump’s policies, my happiness has if anything, increased.
The last one is my favorite.
Do you see the fear?
Unless they were running Hillarys campaign, Trumps election had no immediate impact on liberals.
They were afraid of what might happen.
The Democrat Party has taught them to be afraid.
That is where we can change them.
Losing an arm or a leg is such a small thing when they had already lost their mind.
Lethargic, deceitful, nasty and mean. These are all still seen with or without a mind.
They have literally lost their minds and have figuratively lost their arms and legs. Many don't know if they are boys or girls.Iit's a wonder they can get out of bed in the morning.
I am so happy to be in The Normals cohort.
Understandable. The Clintonids had their bailiwicks and sinecures picked out for months....maybe years.
The job consisted of nothing but cashing huge US govt checks and sucking-up to "Prez" Hillary 24/7.
That hurt to see it all go down the drain.
