A pilots tested rule of thumb for reliability of an engine. Never more than 50HP per jug continuous. Do not shock cool or shock heat. Lean the mixture to shut down engine, do not just turn off the spark.

It should be faster than that. Here's a 1000-HP Jeep that does 0-60 in 2.7 seconds.
