DeDe Phillips grew up in the country, and she knew all about bobcatsincluding how they kill.
They go for your jugular, the Georgia woman recently told OnlineAthens. [B]ecause when they can get the vein youre dead in a couple of minutes.(snip)the 46-year-old came face-to-face with a rabid bobcat, setting off a bare-knuckle death struggle between Phillips and the animal. She wonkilling the cat with her hands.(snip)
She noticed a neighbors dog barking. Then she saw the cat prowling near her car.(snip)
As soon as it took the first step, I was in trouble and I knew it, she explained to CBS 46. The cat jumped, its claws raging for her face.
It caught me slightly on my face, but I got him before he could do much damage there, Phillips explained to OnlineAthens. I took it straight to the ground and started inching my hands up to its throat. I knew that was the only way I was getting out of this.
As she fought for her life with an animal revved up and sharp as a buzz saw, she uttered no cries or shouts for help. The struggle was silent.(snip)
So she continued to squeeze the life out of the animal. When finally the bobcat stopped moving, Phillips shouted for her daughter-in-law to call 911 and her son, she told OnlineAthens. Her hands, however, stayed clenched around the bobcats motionless neckPhillips wasnt sure if the animal was really dead. Her son arrived before police with a handgun but Phillips felt she was too close to the bobcat to shoot it.
Instead, her son took out a knife.
My son stabbed it four or five times, but it never budged so I knew it was completely dead,

I wonder what the protocol is for an event like this wrt rabies. The article doesn’t say whether she was bitten, but if there was any spray of saliva she still could contract it through eyes/nose/mouth...
Ooops. Helps to read all the way to the end ;-)
She was scratched. She is more than likely going to get injections of rabies vaccine.
Cats clean their claws with their tongues.
Plenty of hardass Yankee Rednecks. My I suggest you say Snowflake Yankees (Not the redneck ones) take notice.
I bet she has “Man Hands”.
Good call....or Soy Boy Yankees ;)
DAYUM!!
The Revellers is an engaging coming-of-age novel published in 1904; it is set in Yorkshire, in the north of England, and follows the youth of its main character from the age of 14 through manhood, including his battlefield experiences during WWI.
Early in the story he prevents a feral cat from attacking a local girl by catching and then killing it with his bare hands.
The article reads that she was “treated at the hospital for cuts, gashes and is undergoing treatment with the rabies vaccine.”
I’d like to see a picture of the bobcat. How big was it? I’m guessing smaller then a couger, yet just as deadly. This woman is my hero.
