Thanks for the link. I did a quick search and found an attack nearby last month. The woman whose dog was killed was charged with firing a weapon at the ground to scare off the dogs. She should have shot them and said she did so as they were about to attack her.

That is sort of like the incident I had about 5 or 6 years ago. My dog was attacked by a pitbull as I was walking him right around twilight time. In my case, I shot the pitbull (I always carry). I was about to call the police when a police woman drove up. She was already on her way because the loose pitbull was already reported for cornering a woman in her garage (the lady had to climb up on her car to get away from it). I had to fill out a report while the police ran my CHL, etc. I cannot imagine firing my gun in a residential neighborhood just to make noise.
