"Save my heroes from suicide."
Prince Harry has raised serious concerns about the number of British soldiers committing suicide after returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Prince confided his fears about a recent surge in suspected suicides in a private letter to a decorated former war hero. His intervention comes as an investigation by The Mail on Sunday reveals veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are now taking their own lives at a faster rate than their comrades died on the battlefield.
At least 12 veterans are feared to have killed themselves since the start of the year one every 13 days. In contrast, troops in Iraq and Afghanistan between 2001 and 2014 were killed in hostile action at a rate of one every 14 days.
Kensington Palace last night confirmed that Harry had expressed concern in a letter sent to Colour Sergeant Trevor Coult, 43, a leading campaigner on veterans issues.

Ping!
Hope his voice helps. Make it a mission, dude.
This is something that if he strongly follows through I believe he could make a big difference
Apparently he loved being a soldier and only stopped when he became a target for his fellow servicemen.
Sadly, around 24 American veterans commit suicide every DAY.
The Prince might consider that a monarchy that is indifferent to the free speech of it’s subjects might make a UK veteran wonder “what did I fight for?”
The monarchy stays silent on Tommy Robinson at great risk to it’s supposed foundations.
Prince Harry is a “torch in our darkness” - say veterans who have battled mental health issues.
I respect Harry a lot for that.
One problem is they’ve turned their symptoms into a soulless acronym, like PTSD.
Oh just stop. The concern for veterans taking their own lives is a good cause
You are throwing apples into the orange basket
Why are these veterans killing themselves at astonishing rates much higher than the rates of veterans from Vietnam or World War II?
Its our current culture. We have raised our children to be victims and snowflakes, and have unprepared them for real life. Their grandfathers and great-grandfathers could and did withstand the terrors of war. These children cannot.
I hope this will help to galvanize efforts to find effective interventions to reduce the toll.
Twenty-two US veterans a day commit suicide.

Hes probably the most likable, normal Royal.
Men came back from WWII and got on with their lives...marrying having children getting and keeping good jobs to support their home maker wives and families...
they were productive citizens...in the US, England, Australia, New Zealand...few committed suicide or were societal drop outs...
You could be right about this generation...
Frankly it is said that most would not be accepted into the military...
Yes. I agree. I believe he CAN make a difference. TALK IS CHEAP, HARRY! Step up.
The Brit soldiers leaving one muzzie country where comrades are injured or died, and coming home to another muzzie country to live. What a HUGH disappointment for them!!
I had an uncle who was just a jolly, laughing older guy. When asked about WW2, he said he sailed on cargo ships and not much happened, that the heroes were the ground soldiers. After he died, the kids found out he had two ships sink under him, and spent 2 days floating unconscious in the ocean after a torpedo explosion blew him overboard from a third ship.
My Dad was in WW2 and Korea, died in Vietnam. He always seemed in control, level headed - the kind of guy who could handle anything. After he died, our Mom told us he had suffered from nightmares his entire life!
I think talking about things can make them worse, not better. Same thing with pity. None of my uncles nor my Dad expected or got pity. I think it was largely, “It’s over. Get on with life!” And they did.
Audie Murphy had a great time post WW2.
Tons of Vets became alcoholics and suffered in shame by themselves.
We have been fighting since 2001.
Way to shit on a generation of war fighters online behind an anonymous screen name.
What “war fighters” ???
