The Mirror reports that the girl’s parents bought her an Xbox One in January and she downloaded Fortnite. But by mid-March she was showing signs of addiction. "We got called in by her head teacher asking if everything was OK. She had fallen asleep twice in lessons and her grades were slipping," said mother Carol.
"When we asked our daughter what the problem was, she became unusually argumentative and aggressive, which we just put down to her hormones."
The family also started noticing regular payments of £50 ($67) per month on their credit card, which the daughter said could be from some extras she’d paid for on Fortnite. When they confiscated the console, the girl reportedly hit her father in the face.

Say what? At the end, the tech writer lays it on the parents. There is truth to this—but happily the parents of the girl in the main story caught on and got help. But let’s not pretend that computer gaming addiction is not real. What I want is informed consumers—who understand the potential risks.
I dabbled with the text version of “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” and with “Myst” a bit when they first came out. It was that never-ending aspect that drove me nuts (as well as the inability to progress very far).
Then I discovered FR. Thank God I’m not addicted to this! “Hey, wife! What are you doing with my iPad? Put that ba....”

Disney through EA games released a star wars game called Battlefront 2 where after shelling out the 70 plus dollars for the disk the game encouraged kids to gamble using mom’s credit card.
5 dollars to spin the wheel and if you win you get a cool new outfit to wear or a useless rifle scope etc.
If you lose....oh well plug in mom’s CC for another spin at the wheel.

i think the Netherlands and a few other European countries have filed law suits against disney and EA for corrupting children.
After the massive public backlash EA removed the gambling out of the game....game sales are way down.
Regarding these “FREE” games i know a guy who has told me he has spent over a thousand dollars on virtual golf clubs in order to compete in his “free” golf game.

People lose their jobs over it and kids have dropped out of school because of it. I would say it's similar to a drug because it provides a stimulate to the mind which causes a euphoric feeling of ups and downs. Thats just my observations.

I remember Lee Travino’s Fighting Golf on the original Nintendo.
That game was absolutely fine with me, give me that old game with online and i’d be very happy.
It’s amazing how weak minded people get sucked into this stuff....take Candy Crush for instance, a simple “free” game that has made billions of dollars off of addicted players.
Games that use psyops to get people hooked and whipping out their credit cards to help them win.
I always played Monopoly that had an ending which was when one player owned everything. Which Monopoly board game are you referring to?
My brother played Donkey Kong and Mario Brothers daily on a Nintendo until he fell asleep. I can’t stand the games. He is now a very successful Engineer.
