I don’t feel sorry for him. He took a chance going to a lawless and utterly corrupt country. Looks like the LDS Church disavowed him. They could not hand over a bribe to get him out?


Where was anything about the Mormon Church ‘disavowing’ him?

If he had been Catholic, would you have expected the Catholic Church to have paid the ‘bribe’

He wasn’t there as a Mormon missionary, just as a private citizen to bring his new wife back to the US. They were just waiting for her visa to be issued.

The only ‘bribe’ ask for was to the wife for $10,000. Doesn’t sound like anyone else knew about the ‘bribe’. In fact the article says his parents wished they had known about it.
