To: Blue House Sue

This is very tiresome. It’s not “racist” to expect to hear English spoken by service providers in the United States. And it’s not “racist” to complain to the manager that the employees are speaking another language. Is it “racist” to complain about employees speaking Swedish in a New York restaurant?

Gee, I was beginning to think I was the only one who thought as you do. I’ve been hoping that POTUS would declare English our official language.

Concur. Occasionally when I’m dealing with service workers speaking another language and not being considerate, I’ll throw in some Japanese or Chinese to make a point. Usually I get a quick ‘I’m sorry’. Sometimes I get a shocked look as they expect only English from my plain self, and sometimes just a smirk. The smirk people I try to avoid the rest of my interaction at that business/location.
