A friend of mine speas Thai. He definitely doesn’t look Thai. Goes into a Thai restaurant with his family. The wait staff is speaking Thai behind his back making fun and insulting his disabled daughter. The fun quickly ended and a couple were fired when he asked to speak with the owner...in Thai!
Yes, unless there is some morality clause in his rental agreement, which I doubt.. the landlord is going to write a big payout.
1) complaining about folks speaking a foreign language is not “racist”..so the story is BS out of the gate.
2). Racism is not inately illegal. This is the United States,you may not be able to discriminate in employment, housing, or other things... but you are still free to hold racist beliefs without punishment.
Seeing the tone of the article, obviously this man did the absolute worst thing possible - committed the unforgiveable sin. Nothing can be worse.

Concur. Occasionally when I’m dealing with service workers speaking another language and not being considerate, I’ll throw in some Japanese or Chinese to make a point. Usually I get a quick ‘I’m sorry’. Sometimes I get a shocked look as they expect only English from my plain self, and sometimes just a smirk. The smirk people I try to avoid the rest of my interaction at that business/location.
