I agree with this statement. As I've said, it will take a while for Syrian's to see our President's good intentions by actions. They've had to live with a long war being paid for by No Man and other countries in the recent past.

My hope for Assad when he came to power was treaties with Lebanon and Israel. It may happen now with the Saudis signing on with Israel.

Could be wishful thinking too.

Assad a good guy, and an Orthodox Christian?

I have some questions.

I’ll go with he’s less evil than some in that part of the world, because after all, he protected Christian Syrians when he was in full control of the country. Of course, he still hates Israel, which is par for that part of the world... that could be better.

But, I thought the Assads were Alawites, which is somewhat Shia in orientation, and is part of why he gets Iranian support. (Of course, their support also facilitates their expansion and control of Hezbollah in Lebanon).

Can you enlighten me further on Assad’s religion?
