I see that this thread is now an ex-thread, so I’ll join the bird chorus. I had a cute little long-eared owl as a pet. He was a real hoot! (pun intended, of course) At dusk he would begin to fly around the yard. His loving trick was to fly towards you and then just graze the top of your forehead with his needle-sharp talons. He never did any damage, but he left you with no doubt that he’d been by.
For three weeks, we had a rescue owl, a great horned owl. If that guy had ever tried the forehead trick, I would have worried about being scalped.
Nothing could compare with pet crows, however. They were just so darned smart. I trained one to come when I sat down. If I sat down on the grass outside and he was anywhere in sight, he would immediately come for a visit. He used to follow me to school, and then find his own way home.
