I think Team Trump may believe it will bring the saga to an end. If just a formality might not be a big deal, if just to take down POTUS at all costs I hope Rudy shuts it down!
Mueller has a long and steady history of being a black hat. Trump knows this fact. IMO trump is playing a dangerous game with Mueller. He cannot be trusted and might not be leveraged into doing the right thing.
A taped confession from mueller would not be enough leverage imo.
