Held in Socorro, New Mexico, college contestants competed in the Grand Canyon Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) for a chance to go to nationals.
Mens Rodeo Team
Jake Burwash finished second in the saddle bronc riding competition. Wyatt Hershberger had a pretty good weekend at the last college rodeo of the year. His times of 9.2 and 9.4 in the calf roping were good enough to win the average. In the short go for team roping, Hershberger took fifth place.
The mens team finished in third place. Jake Burwash, a rough stock rider (saddle bronc, bulls, and bareback riding), earned enough points to go on to the national finals.
Womens Rodeo Team
Maddee Doerr split the win in the goat tying event. Nichole Lake placed seventh in the barrel racing and fifth in the breakaway roping. Marckee Belliston placed fifth in goat tying. Montana Landis placed sixth in the goat tying. Alexa Smith was seventh in the goat tying.
The women's team finished second in the region in dominant fashion. Because they placed second in the region, the entire womens team will participate in the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming, on June 10-16.

Hey Rat, are you the owner of the Sierra Vista Herald? It’s the only explanation you keep posting all the inane articles that you post.
You really think Freepers nationwide care or should know that a kid from Sierra Vista qualified for a rodeo??
