SVUSD to return to school Thursday

Sierra Vista Unified School District officials announced Tuesday afternoon that the district's campuses will reopen to students on Thursday.

The announcement also stated that SVUSD will not have early-release Thursdays through the remainder of the school year, in order to help make up for lost instructional minutes since the statewide teacher walkout began last Thursday.

It was not immediately clear Tuesday afternoon what prompted teachers to return to the classroom, or if other area districts will follow suit.

This article will be updated throughout the evening.

The entirety of the SVUSD announcement reads:

"While the state budget, which includes changes to education funding has yet to be approved, we will remain closed on Wednesday, May 2.

We can also announce that we will reopen on Thursday, May 3.

Updates to the question and answer document on our website will occur later tonight, to answer some of the questions you may have.

Please know this as we prepare to open our doors to our amazing students:

**We will extend instructional days at all schools to Tuesday, May 29.

**School hours will be: Elementary: May 3-29 8:00 - 2:15 pm

JCMS: May 3-29 9:00 - 3:45 pm

Buena: May 3-29 7:20 - 2:48 pm

**May 23: JCMS 8th grade promotion ceremony still as scheduled.

**May 21: Buena SENIOR final exams - 7:20 - 2:48

**May 24: Buena Graduation, with Project Graduation that evening and into May 25.

**May 24-25: Buena grades 9-11 Final exams 7:20 - 10:30 (half day schedule due to exams)

**May 29: Instructional day, Buena students receive final grades; more information to follow on 5/29 happenings.

If you have any specific questions relating to your child, please contact your student's school beginning on Thursday.

More information will be released as we consider other options that may affect our students as we work together for a strong finish to our 2017-18 school year.

Thank you for your patience during this very challenging time. We appreciate your support and we can't wait to see your children back at our schools on Thursday."

There is NO legitimate reason for ANY Public Employee to belong to ANY “labor” Union at all. It is time to remove Teacher’s Unions from each and every Public School campus across this country.

Our children deserve better and so do the Taxpayers.
