The rat (not supported by most of her own party or the DSCC) only took 13% against King in 2012.

The Republican under-performed at 30%, not that he was a strong or well-funded candidate, he wasn’t.

No Green was on the ballot, 2 other indies and the Libertarian took roughly 1% each.

Party base votes are weak in Maine, fungible, look at the Perot vote, most of those types went for King. We needed a stronger $$ candidate and for the rat to take way more than 13%.

Well, I suppose there was a major problem. As I recall, the RATs also ignored their own nominee against Bernie Sanders. They were smart enough not to split the "progressive" vote.

I think he was also a moderate squish. With the RAT and the "Independent" both being obvious leftists, a decent conservative Republican alternative with strong name ID who gave voters a very different option would have been ideal. Sadly, no such species seems to exist in Maine. ::sigh::

Having a well-known liberal RAT running in "Independent" drag was an ideal scenario for a conservative pick-up in an otherwise non-conservative state. King's candidacy was very different than LIEberman (who was also a 95% leftist but benefited from useful idiot conservatives claiming "the war on terror is the most important issue" so they foolishly supported Al Gore's running mate) or Jesse Ventura (a loose cannon who ran as a libertarian style "fiscal conservative and social liberal")

I think the only reason King isn't "officially" a member of the RAT party is that he pretends to be some private sector businessman who is "above" partisan politicians. Otherwise, I can't think of a single important issue where he differs from the RAT party's talking points. The only "independent" thing he's done as Senator is endorse a few token RINO candidates.

States can’t enter into such compacts. Sounds like these anti-Constitutional apostates need to be removed from office forthwith.

Man, things would just be so awesome in this country if those guys were choosing our U.S. Senators for us. < /sarcasm>
