What if a man lived for 14,000 years?. Who would he be? What might he have been? Classic Bixby.
He would be one tired dude.
Several years ago I tried to watch this movie on several occasions and didn’t finish it. It seemed like an interesting premise but the characters came off as artificially idiosyncratic and melodramatic and I just couldn’t get pulled in by it
Regards,
He’d be a profit center for government that would suck off his assets and money for 14,000 years.
I saw it (spoiler alert)
Among the famous people in history that were actually him was Jesus.
I watched that movie a few years ago. Basically, its a bunch of friends sitting around, talking. That almost the ENTIRE movie. That said, I found it fairly interesting and thought provoking. Christians might be offended or whatever, but it did keep my interest. Its something to watch late at night when you cant seem to get to sleep.
Who would want to be an old man/woman for 13,930 years?
Meh. It was OK, but certainly not 5/5 or anything groundbreaking. The whole “I was Jesus” thing was contrived and not unexpected.
They made a second film in 2017, following up on the original.
The movie character appears to be a 30-something who is essentially immortal unless you cut off his head. But without the sword fights like “Highlander”.
It is a better than average indie film. More intellectual, leaves the door open at the end but tends toward his original argument.
I haven’t seen the follow-up movie, because injecting “evil government going after you” is certain to make it trope and thus bad.
I might watch if someone made a movie of Poul Anderson’s “Boat of a Million Years”. Really gets into what it would be like to be one of a dozen or so immortals produced in human history. Perhaps Anderson’s best work.
The rock band RUSH sang about finding Xanadu and everlasting life:
To stand within the pleasure dome
Decreed by Kubla Khan
To taste anew the fruits of life
The last immortal man
To find the sacred river Alph
To walk the caves of ice
Oh, I will dine on honey dew
And drink the milk of paradise, oh paradise
A thousand years have come and gone
But time has passed me by
Stars stopped in the sky
Frozen in an everlasting view
Waiting for the world to end
Weary of the night
Praying for the light
Prison of the lost, Xanadu
A great live version of the song:
