France's President Emmanuel Macron and wife Brigitte are being received with a grand welcome to the White House this morning by U.S. President Donald Trump and wife Melania.
The French first couple arrived at the president's mansion just after 9 am by limousine, where they were greeted by a military band on the White House's South Lawn.
A ceremony reserved only for the most formal celebrations, the Macrons are the first guests of Trump's tenure to be honored with such decadence.
President Trump in remarks said that the occasion of the Macrons' visit, the first state visit of his presidency, is a 'fitting' tribute to the 'leader of America's oldest ally' and 'testimony to the enduring friendship that binds our two nations.'

White House officials, including Ivanka Trump, Jared Kusher and John Kelly, and Cabinet secretaries lined up on the lawn in anticipation of the speeches. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross were front and center. The first lady's parents were also present for the occasion.
On the French side, the defense, economic, foreign affairs, and education ministers and the ambassador to the United States and Members of Parliament arrived first and greeted U.S. officials.
Presidents Trump and Macron again met with European pecks on the cheek. The couples then made their way through a receiving line of officials before mounting a platform where they stood in full view of the South Lawn for the playing of the French and U.S. national anthems and the burst of several cannons.
The first ladies wore white and off-white, Melania Trump in a stark white suit with a broad-rimmed hat and Brigitte Macron in a cream suit and jacket with black trim.

I am vertically challenged at only 5’6”, but I love how POTUS Trump towers above all the other leaders he meets and hosts (and how he towered above Tippy-toes Jeb, and the other GOPe candidates during the primaries).

Seriously, anyone who stands beside our POTUS and FLOTUS comes out, at best, looking second rate.
