I’m very grateful for the rescue organization from which we got our dog. They called once to see how things were going and that was it. All rescue places aren’t the same.
You have no idea what kind of nightmare this has been. Am so glad this article was posted because it proves all long I was correct and these rescues, the majority are nothing more than people adopting and keeping the animals under a 501c. Now shelters are getting into the act and selling out.
Oh well I’ll by way of the puppy will and give them all a what for. I’m so angry now I could just spit! Dirty bastards all of them.
We watched the one while they were out of town - never barked! (Gee - imagine that, in a house with caring adults and a kid and a big back yard to play in!) “You want him - you can have him!!”
Our second dog was a rescue from some group - it was a bit odd I thought, they had a donated office space given to them for the day. Various pickups and cars arrived in the morning and put the dogs into kennels in the vacant office space for the day. Some were late as they were coming from all different places around the state.
I don't recall how much we paid - maybe $250 for him with shots, etc. I don't recall any follow-up calls. (This was 8 years ago now). I do recall they said he was probably black lab, pointer, and Australian Sheppard or something. “Oh - he'll probably get to 40 pounds or so.”
We get it home and another neighbor who is a dog person looked at him and said - “Oh - black lab and great dane!” We looked online, and sure enough! We figure the rescue people didn't want to scare us off with a big dog (iirc we had given them the 40 pound idea.).
Of course now I'm glad we have a big black dog (80 pounds). Large size and his loud bark when someone comes to the door must factor in there somewhere.
