If you’re the heart of your national team, most people are willing to overlook your failings. All Reed needs to do is to keep on beating the Europeans and the World teams, and people will like him well enough. They don’t call him Captain America for nothing.

I agree, he is a pretty rough character, but he is our national rough character. I would compare him to Andrew Jackson, who got into a little trouble from time to time.

Shades of the Villanova player, who they just had to do through all of his Tweets from like five years ago.

Patrick Reed is a Texan, born and bred. Soft people have a hard time relating to Texans. We don’t care.

Didn’t he hit the tree on first hole during backstroke? Jim Nantz said he did. Shouldn’t that be a one stroke penalty?

All I saw today was a guy who putted incredibly well and withstood a ton of pressure from some very big names behind him. He deserved the Green Jacket.

Of course, in the cut-throat, merciless world of Twitter, Reed's past was always going to be alluded to.

If Patrick Reed were, for example, an unrepentant Hillary supporter, how would the sports coverage be different? (How would this thread be different?)

First I've heard about Reed's past issues, except for the quote about Jordan Spieth’s very favorable ball drop ruling, which sounded like benign competitive sarcasm to me.

In any event, after Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth, and Rory McIlroy each made a serious run at him on Sunday, Reed kept his composure, played a solid round, and won a Major Championship.

I say, congratulations Patrick Reed.

The year Patrick Reed tried to earn his PGA tour card, he Monday qualified six times. This may be a record. He and his wife drove from tournament to tournament since they didn’t have the money for flying. She stopped being his caddy when she had their first child. They have two now. I was hoping he would win. He is a proud American.

Unsurprisingly, Sports Joe is doing the same thing.

Reed got on the PGA tour a few years ago by being a Monday qualifier.

Nobody does that these days. But it’s an indication of his ability and confidence.

So in other words, Reed is about as likeable as Tiger Woods was before his personal life imploded. I don’t care if he wins.

This BS is the same as those who will never get over Clinton losing to Trump. This anti-Reed garbage comes out as Wood’s comeback is a big fail.

Evidence that he’s racist: He’s white and he beat Tiger Woods.

He should have knocked a few in the water to give Tiger a chance this year.

Headline on CBSSports.com : “2018 Masters scores: Tiger Woods turns in best performance on Sunday to close out Augusta return” After all, he did manage to tie for 32nd. He’s entitled.

If you knock the ball in the hole with the least amount of strokes over 72 holes at Augusta National the first week in April then you are a Masters Champion.

It don’t matter what your past is.

Congratulations Patrick Reed.

Funny how when some folks’ heroes don’t prevail, they find solace in harping on the past faults of those who conquered them.....
