A young black transgender woman was shot dead in a Louisiana motel this week, becoming at least the seventh transgender woman known to have been killed in the United States this year, rights advocates said.
The woman, Amia Tyrae, 28, was killed Monday at about 1:15 a.m. at a motel on Airline Highway, according to the Baton Rouge Police Department.
Dr. William Clark, the East Baton Rouge Parish coroner, ruled Ms. Tyraes death a homicide, caused by a gunshot wound to the chest.
The Police Department said Friday night that Dedrick Butler, 22, of Denham Springs, La., had been arrested in the killing. He was charged with second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

The anger and confusion in the gay/trans communities is legendary...there is no forgiveness, just spite and anger.
apples and oranges.
7 is not a trend. i bet if you do a detailed analysis of the seven, you’d find all sorts of circumstances that created an environment where these individuals coming to an untimely demise was not unexpected.
Death is bad news for anyone, don’t get me wrong. We shouldn’t cheer the death of any civilian. But some people’s choices put them into situations where it isn’t surprising.
I recall the old 70s movie (was it “Kentucky Fried Movie?” or “The Groove Tube”?) where the Evel Knievel type daredevil walked into the middle of a bunch of black thugs in the ghetto and screamed the N word. Then took off running...they chased after him. Expect to get pummeled if you do something stupid.
Could be the victim was a prostitute and the customer didn’t like what he found downstairs.
Maybe he killed her because he thought she was a hooker. Would that make it less of a crime? /rhetorical question
If it was some variation on that, even if no money was exchanging hands, there is something to the importance o truth in advertising.
Was HE trying to pass as an ACTUAL WOMAN at the time of his death. The article doesn’t clear this up. The article acts as if peoplw just stalk transgenders for sport.
When I was a kid, you had old bachelors and spinsters.
We all suspected they was gay but maybe they were just putting nickel’s together to pay the bills.
No one feared them because they did not recruit.
If we had any transgenders they pulled it off and kept it on the QT
You start waggling yer stuff around and bad things happen
7 out of 330 million.
NY Times runs a story.
Says more about the newspaper.
I'm gonna guess what her/his/whatever resume says....
dangerous lifestyles.. nuff said..
Man accused of murdering transgender prostitute at Baton Rouge motel
There, police found 28-year-old Darrel Berryman dead from a gunshot. In the arrest records, police say Berryman was a "transvestite" working as a prostitute out of the motel room.
Darrel, what do you want to be when you grow up? A transvestite prostitute! Not exactly a good career choice. So on the death certificate, hell be marked as a deceased male, correct ?
Considering that nearly 30,000 non-transgender people will be shot and killed in this country, it’s difficult to see why they’re complaining.
The mortality rate would be lower if the the “transgender” were not prostitutes

He is a convicted felon who might have discovered he liked trannies while in the joint.
There is a culture with African Americans that identify as straight but don’t act it. Eddie Murphy would be a famous example.
I’d go with drug deal gone bad.
Can’t believe one random murder in LA made the NY Times. Oh, wait, they are trying to pretend it is some big trend of violence against “transgenders”.... Considering that a lot of these people lead dangerous lives around drugs, dangerous sex, prostitution, etc. I doubt that there is any trend.... but hacktivists will grab onto anything (or make something up) to try to make propaganda.
I was JUST having a conversation about this the other day with my daughter and son-in-law. I stated that I was surprised that I hadn’t yet heard of any killings, or beatings. I said that if I was a guy and had a fling with someone and afterward found THAT out, I could see going into a blind rage. I can’t imagine how that would make a man feel.
Having said that, I don’t believe men should be out having flings in the first place, but that’s a whole ‘nother thread.
Drugs? Robbery? Lovers quarrel? Was the killer known to the victim, with an unrelated motive?
“He was charged with second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.” Obviously NRA’s fault./Sarc.
