LOS ANGELES -

Joe Panik homered off Clayton Kershaw in the fifth inning and the San Francisco Giants beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 1-0 on Thursday, dealing the three-time NL Cy Young Award winner his first loss in his franchise-record eighth consecutive opening day start.

It was the first run allowed this year by Kershaw, including spring training. The seven hits given up by the left-hander are the most off him on opening day, when he is 5-1.

Kershaw struck out seven and walked two in six innings.

Andrew McCutchen, acquired from Pittsburgh during the offseason, was 1 for 4 with a double in his Giants debut. Evan Longoria, obtained by San Francisco from Tampa Bay, was 0 for 4 with three strikeouts.

San Francisco's pitching stood out against the defending NL champions, with replacements in the starting and closing roles.

Already 9 innings into the season and the Dodgers have yet to score a single run? Is Kershaw headed for the DL? Manager change? Go Cubs!

Full house. Dodger blue. Both teams are rusty. Mickey Hatcher, a player from 1980’s, sat in the bleachers. I like how one MLB reporter said that the next three years will determine whether Kershaw is either the best pitcher in history or simply a first ballot hall of famer. Good point.

Trout: best player in a generation with a Christian family.
Kershaw: best pitcher in history with a Christian ministry.

Play ball.

Haven’t heard from the sole MLB kneeler last year, the Oakland A’s catcher Bruce Maxwell, who is on the A’s opening day roster this year. Anyone see a report from today?

Even I’m not that pessimistic! But, it’s going to be a bloodbath with Beltre, Hamels, and probably Elvis exiting when things become bleak.

Don’t know, but he said he wasn’t going to be kneeling this season. He was a September call-up, so I don’t even know if he’s with the big club. Haven’t followed their spring at all.

I wish he’d been released the moment he kneeled.

I don’t think the Marlins will even win 50 games this year

Kneeler Bruce Maxwell is the only backup to C Jonathon Lucroy on the A’s 25-man active roster.

Kershaw has been the most over-rated pitcher I’ve ever seen.He racks up stats in the regular season and chokes whenever the ball is is given to him in a big game.”The greatest pitcher on earth” couldn’t carry Steve Carltons jock strap

I wish he could have started that game also. Maybe the Astros could have laid nine runs on him in the first inning like the Cards did in the playoffs

Until/unless Kershaw wears a couple of World Series rings, and wins AT LEAST on Series MVP, he is not even worthy of a footnote in MLB history.

His nemesis, Madison Bumgarner is the precise opposite.

In 2014 he put on his THIRD WS ring.
MLB record for playoff innings pitched in a single season (52 2/3)
2014 WS MVP
0.25 combined WS ERA
0.50 combined playoff ERA

And Kershow has never won a WS game.
