Bogoroditse Devo is one of my most favorite pieces, to hear or to sing. I once got to sing it (Bass II) at a major event in the refurbished California Theater in San Jose.
Many otherwise great composers, like Beethoven, did not understand voice leading well for the human voice. Rachmaninoff did.
