Question Re: Trumps' Latitude with Omnibus Bill--See Body of Thread

Posted on 03/24/2018 7:44:07 AM PDT by Be Careful

While we are all, at face value, so disappointed with Trumps' signature on this bill, perhaps there is a silver lining that has not yet surfaced....My question is, as Obama did, can Trump slow-walk, re-direct or even withhold funding for any aspect of this Omnibus Bill? This bill is not protected by the Constitution, as is a 'Budget'......Does anyone have any productive input on this subject?

Declare TX, NM, AZ & CA as Wall Sanctuary States and build it.

I am disappointed, yes, but I will not align myself with the gloating Dems and the frothing media to bash Trump. He’s not perfect. I do not see anyone on the horizon I would replace him with. I pray for him and his marriage every day. Imagine the constant attacks he is up against, and yet he deafens his ears and continues to fight to take back this country from the near-coupe that Obama and his Denizens tried to implement. Will he succeed? I believe it is too early to tell. Fight on. A battle may be lost, but the war continues unabated.

The answer is it depends on what political party the president belongs to. I can’t imagine any Dem president allowing this on-the-fly “budget” to dictate his spending or constrain him in any way. Dems do whatever they want.

He didn’t outsmart them.

He snookered himself.

Freeper “lost password” made the point about Obama using monies designated for one thing to fund projects he preferred.

We might consider that Trump signed porkulus not b/c he’s so enamored of the spending items but b/c he has plans for the tax dollars it generates.

It doesn’t mean Trump is “all in” with the designees of the tax dollars.......despicables like PPhood, EPA and the other liberal parasites.

Ergo, I’m willing to cut him a little slack.

Trump got snookered by the Swamp.

They’ve been doing this for years, he’s a rookie.

Between Mueller and this, he’s starting to get beat down, this was a defeat.

He needs support now more than ever from the base.

Else he’ll cave completely.

He could if he had the guts, but if he had the guts, he would have vetoed this obscene bill.

We are not disappointed with his signature,. We are disappointed with him.. he is prohibitted from slow walking anything by the case of new york vs nixon. This was a disaster-for the country and a political disaster for trump.

“He didn’t outsmart them.”

I expect a much better “deal” based on his negotiating “mastery.”

Disappointed. The number/percentage of weak Republicans is astounding.

This comment on one of the chans makes one go hmmmmmm......

That is an interesting theory on using the Army Corp of Engineers to build the wall. Say you send ten thousand, already bought and paid for, Army Corp of Engineers down to the border to build the wall.

That leaves you 20 billion to buy material and extra contract labor. Throw in the fact that this “Omnibus” is good for two years and we are in bussiness. If we start tomorrow, the wall could be finished before the next budget fight.

You make a good point, I’m not going to lie.

I’m so pissed off he did this.

I’m not concerned with whether or not he caves completely anymore, because at this point, I’m so used to being backstabbed...

But is it worth considering the possibility of forgiving him based upon one inexperienced politician versus all the stinking snakes and rats of the Swamp?

Perhaps so. I’m going to have to think about this.

Thanks for your perspective, Jones.

Yeah, I did too. This is not the Art of the Deal at all.

But now I am considering whether or not to forgive him based upon a point made in post #7, his being a rookie, and being up against all odds.

Now I am conflicted inside.

Good find. Q has referenced all systems go with red castle green castle which are both references to ace’s logo and physical address. I do think potus has something up his sleeve. It appears he really can fund most of the wall using the army corps of engineers which is embedded in the omni bus spending bill. Let’s wait and see. Fingers crossed

I can’t seem to find a list of Republicans that voted for this bill. I want to know who they are. Does anyone have a link to the list?

What if he did it for the reason he said he did it? To rebuild the military. Would you excuse the gross spending if it prevented an existential threat to the nation? China, the Norks and Iran loom on the horizon. Suppose that they had laid plans based on an expected Hillary win, as well.

In a word, NO. Trump cannot pick and choose what to fund and what to not fund- that is the role of congress. All appropriations must be delivered to the statutory recipient, however, those entities may not necessarily spend it all and have discretion once the funds at in hand. With limits. For example, the Army may not spend operations funds on base construction, nor vice versa.

As to Trump’s request for line item veto- that died long ago- once again, congress decides where money goes and bills are enacted in their entirety. President cannot sequester or otherwise not spend funds appropriated- he would be violating the law.

Some discretion is built in, but not that much.

Trump should have vetoed the appropriations bill, in my opinion, then taken to twitter and explained how the GoP and Dems are ruining the country enmass. Then demanded a clean bill restart from congress.

Is anyone still thinking the GOP is on our side or are they obviously in cohort with the leftists, but I repeat myself....

Vote ‘em out! Replace them with guys like us.

PRESIDENT TRUMP’S first priority is rebuilding the military. He is counting on us to elect CONSERVATIVE legislators to the HOUSE and SENATE so his agenda can get back on track by 2019.
