Above is a really well-written story on Rodney. He worked VERY hard at his comedy, and took him several tries and many years. Really an amazing story.
One of my favorites went something like:
“I had a terrible childhood. Nobody loved me, not even my mother! As an infant I didn’t even get breastfed. My mom said ‘Can’t we just be friends?’”
But as great a comedian as Johnny Carson was in his own right, watching him feed lines as a straight man to Rodney is pure comedic art. He was much underrated for these straight man skills.
...
Carson made it look easy, but I think he put a lot of effort in it and took pride in his show. He expected comedians to be in top form. If they weren’t they either didn’t get invited back or got invited when a guest host was on. That happened to Steve Martin after he did his dog act.
Rodney said he spent months putting together routines for the Carson show. He also considered himself an actor playing a part.
I seem to recall hearing somewhere that during the filming of “Caddyshack” the partying was out of control, and Dangerfield was right there in the thick of it.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that...:)
He was awesome in "Caddy Shack" !

Can I tell my Rodney dangerfield story?
In college one day I was at the beach in Santa Monica on my towel with my eyes closed. All of a sudden I heard the most familiar voice, Rodneys. He walked up to a young guy near us and asked him if he could tell him a few jokes. The kid was a bit star struck and said, yeah, yeah, of course. So Rodney, wearing a white bathrobe, tried out the jokes on this guy, who laughed heartily and said he really liked them. Rodney moved on down the beach, and the guys friend asked him if he really thought the jokes were funny, and the kid said no, he didnt. I didnt think that was very nice. Should have told him. Funny moment in life though.
His headstone reads, Rodney Dangerfield... There goes the neighborhood.
Take My Wife...
Please!
My wife and I were happy for 20 years. Then we met.
“No respect I tell ya! I told my kid “Someday you’ll have children of your own’’. He said “ Yeah someday so will you’’.

I think that one belongs to Henny Youngman.
You got That!
When I grew up, things were tough. Our neighborhood was so tough, ....even the moon didn’t come out at night.
When I was a kid my parents moved a lot, but I always found them. -—Rodney Dangerfield
My screams when she has sex, she really screams! Especially when I walk in on her.
