I would imagine there were a lot of behind the scenes ‘discussions’ with certain high rankings or valuable abilities. Deals were probably cut. Many Germans feared capture or imprisonment from the Soviets. They knew the score there. Yea, there were a lot of people looking to cut that deal.

When Japan fell the US took possession of a few I-400s, the massive sub that had a float plane hanger. When the Soviets let be be known they were sending technicians to inspect the subs the US towed them out to deep water and sunk them.
