I like Joaquin Phoenix in Gladiator as Commodus

and

Rutger Hauer in Blade Runner at Roy Batty

but I'm sure I have others if I really pondered it.

RE Cape Fear:

DeNiro played that part pretty well too in the remake.

Great answer. One of the creepiest characters in any movei. I'd put him at the top of the list, just ahead of this dude from Last of the Mohicans:

Black & White makes them seem badder.

Beau Geste - Sgt. Markoff - Brian Donlevy is an underrated bad guy - I promise you !

In Hunter I believe black and white helped, but Mitchum was very menacing.

In The Manchurian Candidate, the mother of a presidential candidate is one of the coldest characters ever. Beautifully played by Angela Lansbury in the original movie.

Two Audie Murphy westerns come to mind.

Ride Clear Of Diablo has Dan Duryea playing an outlaw named Whitey Kincaid. In the end he sacrifices his life for Clay O’Mara played by Murphy.

The second Audie Murphy western is titled Seven Ways From Sundown. The outlaw is a character named Jim Flood played perfectly by Barry Sullivan.

Both movies are alike in that Murphy has to bring them over a long distance to justice. Lots of interesting things happen along the way.

Alan Rickman was superb in anything he was in.

Even if the rest of the movie was horrible he shown.
