Excellent! It can probably advise the local equivalent of the cowards of Broward when it’s safe to enter...

At the same time, it calls police, providing them with specific information about where in the building the shots were fired,

Maybe different alarm sounds for different buildings/floors etc.

Wasn’t there some kind of alarm or drill the day of the Florida shooting?

I’ve alternately heard reports that they were undergoing a gun shooter drill or that the shooter had pulled the fire alarm.

Sensors are placed throughout the building that constantly scan for the sound of gunfire, Jax explained. Once a sensor detects a gunshot, the system’s computer can differentiate and confirm that the sound is gunfire and not a different loud noise that is common in a school, like a locker slamming.

Because a .22LR fired from a rifle sounds just like a 9mm fired from a pistol.

Similar product already developed called Shot Spotter. Detection devices pick up the sound and are linked to Dispatch center for priority police response.

OK, you hear the sound after the bullet has impacted a student. How does this help?

Our school district already has this. It’s even a phone app. Tied directly PAST 911 to the local constabulary.

Why do you need an alarm when you can hear gunshots?

so what’s that supposed to do if the police sit outside and talk on the radio, and let the guy walk down to Subway to get a sandwich?

This former substitute ain’t thinking this through if ha fails to advise schools to include serious charges to anyone deliberately setting off the sensor by some means NOT involving a gun. I havent been in HS for 42 years but present HS boys with a challenge...

A gunfire detector in a school?

How about using your ears.

ABSOLUTELY USELESS. Unless there is someone already on-scene who is willing confront the murderer, all the alarms, barricades, and hides are absolutely useless. ARM THE TEACHERS who want to be armed. Either you trust them, or you don’t.
