Greetings from Missouri. Weather here has been variable this week. Rain, snow, only a little sunshine.

Hubby has started some of his seeds. Still don't have the new garden bed finished. Needing to transplant turmeric roots, but am afraid to put them outdoors yet.

Lemon tree is doing it's usual drop leaves and act like it's dying for this time of the year. It usually pulls out when summer gets here and I put it outdoors.

Hope all goes well with you. Have a great weekend. Prayers up for all. God Bless.

So the last two weeks of Feb were beautiful and I figured I’d get an early start on the peas and get them in the ground ASAP.

And just like last year, I started the seeds and within a couple days, the weather changed and we’ve been getting bombed with snow since then.

Got a nor’eater and now lake effect and the temps tanked to jan levels.

We’re not supposed to see the sun or temps above 40 for another week yet.

GRRRRR....... It’s so frustrating....

But I did get up to a friend’s farm and got a start on manuring the small section of garden and mixing it in well. Soon as the snow melts and we see the ground again, they peas are going in.

The rest of it will have to wait.

Hi all.

It’s been not too bad lately, the evil white stuff is all gone, the windstorms have abated, and several croci, daffs and violets have popped their pretty little heads out. A few poppies have also broached the soil surface and are growing slowly.

All the fruit trees are now showing signs of budding, the rhubarb is starting to leaf out, it’s lovely!

I accidentally dropped a rock on the peony when mowing the lawn on Monday, I’m hoping I didn’t hurt it too badly. Grass looks so much better when it’s freshly cut.

The garden room needs one electrical wire replaced, as I somehow managed to short the ground and neutral wires to one measly outlet with a drywall screw. D’oh! At least I don’t have to go through a new, freshly painted wall to replace it.

Getting some seedlings started (toms, lettuce, radishes, peas and beans) this weekend is the plan. After the silliness mitigation, that is. < BG >

Nothing else I can think of, other than I have to make some hamburger soup, for me and the 18 y/o dog. I’ve had a hankering, and he’s been off his feed for the last few weeks.

G_d bless all, and happy growing!

Not much going on in my garden.

Need to pull weeds out from mint and oregano because they are almost dead from cold and choking on weeds.

Italian parsley and garlic chives are hanging in there.

Sage is starting to look really good-it was kind of sorry looking in fall but coming around-I think it's on its 3rd year.

No signs of life in the asparagus bed....

Garlic and onions are still hanging on-those were planted last fall. I was never good at growing onions and these probably will be puny because I used bulbs instead of sets. They are ref onions, which are my favorite.

I am missing my oven! On Tuesday, the heating element crapped out after impersonating a combo of an arc welding light and a grease fire! My stove is usually really clean so I thought it was odd there was a fire in the oven.

From what I read, I'm lucky I caught it in time. It only got the front left corner of the heating element. I was prepping other dinner items, noticed the arcing and fire(?) and shut it off right away. Sometimes they go really quick and burn all the way around the element, wiping out ground and terminal too. Can start fires if not stopped in time or oven is filthy.

Got a new one ordered for 20.00. It should be here on Tuesday or Wednesday and then I'll hopefully have my oven back. I need to bake some bread like yesterday that store bread is nasty.

I cleared my well established raspberries but I decided not to chop down the babies and let them have another year of growth on the old canes rather than force them to grow from the ground. I probably won't get as many raspberries but I hope it will help the plants grow.

Other than that I've been raking up sweet gum tree gum balls.

So far I've picked up 7 thirty gallon trash cans full of them and I have a lot more to rake. I love the tree but I hate those spiky devil balls.

The Greenhouse arrived on Thursday, but will stay in its box until the ground thaws and we can get the pad built for it. I’ll be starting veggie plants in my grow-rack, but not until end of March or so; weather depending. I plan on buying some of what I need this year, as from this Fall forward, I will be growing out just about anything and everything I can in my Greenhouse. (Yippee!)

We got one more dump of snow last week; 6-inches. Man, it was heavy - like shoveling ice cream - but certainly not as rewarding, LOL! Thee days later - it’s all gone again. Why shovel? Meh!

Lots of Robins out and about now and the Goldfinches are turning slightly more yellow, which is a good sign! ;)

I have been stashing cardboard to line four more garden beds that we’ll start on as soon as the weather turns warmer. We have another week and the Weatherman PROMISES weather in the 50’s on a consistent basis. We shall see.

We are driving to Sturgeon Bay on Monday to drop off Beau’s black bear hide for tanning - he’s having it made into a rug, and lately has announced that the bull elk skull and rack he’s been boiling and the bear skull he’s having cleaned by beetles (!) at a friends will be future ‘decor’ in the family room. Alrighty, then...

I AM looking forward to the drive, though - a BEAUTIFUL part of our state, to say the least:

I know that doesn’t have a thing to do with gardening - just venting! :)

Have a Great Weekend, Everyone!

I’m glad you mentioned your lemon tree. This is my 3rd year with mine. Maybe it’s my poor memory but it sure seems like mine looks worse than last year. Spring ia here for our locale so I’m going to repot it in a slightly larger pot this coming week as I take it outside. It’s down to about 10% leaves. Yikes.

I spent a couple of hours in the garden this afternoon doing some cleanup and hooking up the drip lines on the new strawberry plants and I took a few photos mostly of the Narcissus that are blooming now. Next week I will mulch the strawberries with rice hulls and then put the cages on them for protection them from the usual critters…

Yesterday was gorgeous here in Central Missouri. Warm, and for the most part, sunny.

Mrs. Augie and I are enjoying a visit with #2 Son, DiL, and the grandboys. Yesterday they were able to play outside, but not today. It’s snowing like crazy right now. Big, heavy, wet flakes - almost slush before they hit the ground. It’s making conditions outside very messy.

I dropped Nanner off at the tractor Doc on Monday for a new water pump, and overhaul of the charging system. We’re tossing the Lucas (prince of darkness) alternator and replacing it with a 3-wire, externally regulated GM unit. I had new battery cables made, and picked up a voltmeter to mount in the cab so I’ll have a visual indication that it’s charging, rather than just the stupid idiot light that never worked anyway. Yesterday I picked up the last of the pieces parts needed to put everything back together. It should be ready to come home in a day or three.

I finished the cargo basket yesterday. All that’s left is to get a warm, dry day and slap some paint on it.

It’s time to buy seed potatoes and get them cut/cured for planting. Space is cleared and ready for that in the kitchen garden. Now that daylight savings time has arrived it will be easier to make headway on outdoor projects during the week.

Picked some baby lettuce of the red romaine sowed earlier this year. Had a very nice small salad, which tasted delicious! Daffy blooming, and having a small but steady supply of violets and pansies. Weather permitting, will be cleaning up the winter mess this weekend.
