I see that article says he was depressed - wonder if he was on Prozac or other SSRI? First reports stated that he had said he was at the white house to seek help from Mattis to take a chip out of his head - lots of shooters these days are hearing voices - could be Prozac side effect, or Mind Control.
People who had partial view of the scene thought he was shot while talking on the phone - heard two shots. However, the other first reports stated that he shot his phone and then himself.

Your memory sounds ok to me.... can’t definitely confirm the timing on blackberry destruction etc, but for sure the house was open and not secured.
