Employees complain of ‘jelly of the month club’ profit-sharing.

Be extra nice to that United Airlines employee the next time you plan to “Fly the Friendly Skies.”

There’s a good chance they’re smiling on the outside, and fuming on the inside after a memo leaked late last week from the airline’s president, Scott Kirby, said the company will be canceling its quarterly bonus program, and replacing it with a drawing for prizes.

Getting a solid dollar bonus beats getting a ticket to some kind of guessing game any day.

Gee, just cut out the bonus, give them a small raise, but don’t insult them with a “Prize” in lieu of a cash bonus...

He probably has a MBA hanging on his wall...

It was my experience that giving employees a ham or turkey for Christmas was usually met with, “Thanks.”

If I gave them a cash bonus they were more likely to say, “Is that all?”

Every year, I ask my step-daughter what she got me for Christmas.

“I bought you a lottery ticket.”

“How will I know if I win?” I ask her.

“I’ll be driving a new Mercedes.”

He probably has a MBA hanging on his wall...

He needs to be an MBA hanging from a streetlamp. Upper management has no freaking clue.

They did this in the late 90’s with a trade off from wage increases to stock options via ESOP- Employee Stock Ownership Program. After 9-11 they ran to bankruptcy court and voided ALL these stocks. The upper management, pilots and IAM management got to cash theirs out so they wouldn’t lose out.
I still remember the ‘used car salesmen’ from the union touting “Our biggest problem going into the new millennium will be keeping so many millionaires employed”
Most of us lost everything, stocks, pensions, retirement and wages... I refuse to fly now, especially on Untied airlines.

You have a choice of prizes, a United keychain, a United blanket or a United Koozie. We’ve determined that it’s far superior to that tawdry old bonus plan, workers, and as an added bonus... err, benefit, it enhances esprit de corps. Now, run along dears.

They do have a freakin' clue, their bonus is tied to cutting this cost, you can take that to the bank, unlike "prizes" in lieu of an employee bonus plan.

Geez, pax get the boarding pass beat out of them, employees get a lotto ticket instead of a formulaic bonus.....makes me glad I haven’t flown that “airline” in a couple decades.

Many years ago when I ran the largest division of the company I worked for (60 million in sales 20 years ago, my piece) the owner bought in a MBA to help us become more profitable. We were making money hand over fist. Long story short, after the idiot lost 5 million dollars in one year, I had the pleasure to fire the clown. It took me two years to repair the damage...
