I know it can be done at a gross level for artificial limb control. But signal deciding at a real communication level with meaningful sand/receive probably still very far away.

I think the trick is to teach the brain to communicate with our electrical interfaces, with biofeedback, rather than to try to teach our electrical interfaces to communicate with the brain.
