Ramsey County Sheriff Jack Serier confirms federal agents have seized dozens of guns and bombs from the home of a student who threatened another student.
Serier discussed the incident at a press conference Friday.
"This had all the ingredients for tragedy to follow," Serier said. "So to be able to prevent that ... I'm pretty proud of our staff."
The student, as well as two adults, were arrested. The sheriff's department confirmed the two adults have been identified as as Lisa Marie Stowe, 40, and Christopher Lloyd Stowe, 41.
Serier said the two have been booked into Ramsey County Jail.
The guns, ammunition, explosive devises, and at least one ballistic vest, were discovered at a home on the 4000 block of DeSoto Street in Vadnais Heights Friday as part of a search conducted to investigate the threat.
"Some people are collectors, and they have this amount of weapons in the home," Serier said. "I don't know if that was the case here, but this was definitely a lot. And the real issue we have on the front end is that some of the weapons were unsecured and clearly accessible by a minor. That's a big problem."
The St. Paul Bomb Squad, as well as agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, responded to the scene. Serier said the Bomb Squad was still at the home Friday night.
The sheriff said the 13-year-old student in question attended the Academy for Science and Agriculture, which has a middle school in Maplewood and a high school in Vadnais Heights, according to its website.
Serier said he could not discuss the nature of the threats, which authorities became aware of in the past 24 hours..
But he said there was no current threat to the public. "But this case does underscore if you see something, say something," he said.
The threat was directed to one student at the school.
This is the GESTAPO in action. We dont take people’s right or property without due process and when you do you may reasonable expect to pay personally millions in damages. This is insanity!!
Why were the adults arrested? The explosive device?
Leaving all the guns and ammo available to the 13 year old.
I can see the “explosives” being illegal - and I suppose in Minnesota now it might be illegal to leave weapons and ammo accessible to a kid. Not when I lived there at that age - but today I suppose.
They keep trying to pass a law like that in Washington State. Of course if your kid DOES do something stupid with a firearm you left out - then the parent is also in trouble. Pretty sure it would have to do with an actual action with the weapon (shooting out the neighbor’s porch light, cat, etc.) - not just a “It was MY turn - I’m gonna’ kill you” statement.
exactly - punishment for pre-crimes is a hallmark of tyranny
Were any of the firearms fully semi automatic assault weapons? They all look like hunting rifles.
The current laws in MN reflect several cases in recent years where firearms were readily available to children and siblings wound up dead.
In today’s world, I’m going to back the actions of the Ramsey County Sheriffs.
For now.
I listened to the press conference.
You know as much as I do, at this time.
Sure. And then sit back and piss and moan that the authorities didn’t do anything when the kid shoots up his school.
“negligent storage of firearms”
Minnesota law.
Several comments have been made that seem to have overlooked the fact that the student in this family had threatened another student, and that apparently led to the weapons seizure at the home.
Actually, not enough information given to draw any definite conclusions.
Yes. A threat was made.
And now, the investigation.
I’m OK with the fact that nobody in that school died today.
found some pix: guns and momma. They’re charging the parents with failure to secure guns from minors.

Lets round up all the black kids in Chicago??
BATFE declared “flash powder” to be a high explosive, making an M80 an “explosive device”. Iknow I’m leaping to a conclusion without facts, but I read “explosive device” with caution and a grain of KClO4.
THis is a case where threats were made, weapons found, and someone put into custody. Not necessarily a bad thing, it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Well - there you go. And add in the threat by the kid.
As with all laws - there needs to be some common sense from the people - AND the officials. I think what gets me riled up is when the laws get twisted around. Here in Washington state they are trying to make it mandatory to lock up one’s weapons - I’m not sure if it is just if kids can access them or everyone.
But - what if a 15 year-old breaks into your house and steals a gun out of your closet and kills somebody with it? Or - steals it out of your big-box store vault? I’ve looked on line, and most of them seem to be pretty easy to open with a power tool.
Anyway - I digress. Hopefully this kid will get the help that he needs if he truly is that disturbed that he made a real threat.
Indeed.
I’ll be following this and posting updates/threads.
