With #MeToo, Monica Lewinsky now sees Bill Clinton’s ‘gross abuse of power’
East Bay Times ^ | 2/26/2018 | Martha Ross

For nearly 20 years, Monica Lewinsky said she accepted the idea that she was an equal, willing partner in her Oval Office affair with President Bill Clinton and that any “abuse” came in the political storm that followed when she was made “a scapegoat” to protect him and his presidency.

But she says that her perspective has changed in recent months, as she writes in a new essay in Vanity Fair. That’s because of the #MeToo movement, which she and others point out has exposed the sometimes complicated ways in which powerful men are able to sexually prey on those less powerful, and rely on their positions to protect them and to silence their victims.

“Now, at 44, I’m beginning (just beginning) to consider the implications of the power differentials that were so vast between a president and a White House intern,” Lewinsky writes in her essay published online Sunday. “I’m beginning to entertain the notion that in such a circumstance the idea of consent might well be rendered moot.” She added that power imbalances and the ability to abuse them “do exist even when the sex has been consensual.”

When she apologizes to Linda Tripp for saving her life, I might consider the possibility that she’s had a come-to-Jesus moment.

It took a while but Monica has finally come to realize that Bill didn’t love her.

I don't remember all the details, but she said she ‘flashed her thong’ underwear to him in a flirtatious gesture, and that precipitated their first ‘encounter’. She was young, irresponsible, and acted stupidly and unethically - including flirting with a married older man for whom she worked. He was older, irresponsible, and acted stupidly and unethically - including cheating on his wife, doing so in the ‘House of the People’ and the temporary home of his wife and child, and having a sexual relationship with a much younger woman/girl who worked for him.

She instigated it, but he took the bait. I used to be less critical of her, largely because of her age when this happened and because he was the President and her boss, but I now see it differently. She was complicit, and actually I don't think there is such a thing as ‘innocent or innocuous flirting’ when the person being flirted with is married. The idea that ‘oh he (or she) is married, so it's safe’ is a ridiculous non-starter, and to flirt with a married boss or supervisor is highly irresponsible and potentially destructive - but it happens a lot.

The ‘me too’ movement ignores that not all ‘work related’ sexual advances are just arrogant unethical men trying to use their power to force sexual relationships with innocent working women. Women also destroy mens lives, and use flirtation as a tool to advancement. The men who act on this are not excused, and flirtation is not the same as saying ‘yes’, but it is irresponsible and disrespectful. I'm not saying, in any way, that I agree with the concept of ‘she asked for it’. I don't. However, being responsible in how we conduct ourselves with others applies to males and females.

To be honest, because parents don't always have this discussion with their children, I actually think a discussion about work-place relationships and how they can ruin lives and break up families should be a part of the junior or senior year high school curriculum.

Under her rules, a powerful man can only have sex with a woman who is equally powerful in her own right. Childish magical thinking. This was consensual.
Someone should ask her at what age women should gain the full right to make adult sexual choices.... like 25? 30?

She was 19 - he was almost fifty.

If Bill Clinton had been a street person Monica would have had the wit to reject him. Monica wanted what Hillary had... it was greed. The feminine version ...That's what Bill Clinton played on...typical con artist and mark.

There were no good guys or innocents there. And remember, all of this was happening during a moment of national crisis. The government was under a budget shutdown and Bill was dealing with the war in the Balkans in the phone while she serviced him.

Jobs outside government in which one wields power and authority are very short lived. They are designed to have a 3 to 5 year rotation in and then out. It keeps the surprises down to a minimum.

Only in government does such empire building exist anymore.

Sally Mulligan of Coral Springs, Florida decided to take one of the jobs that most Americans are not willing to do.
Sally applied for a job in a Florida lemon grove and seemed to be far too qualified for the job.

She has a liberal arts degree from the University of Michigan and had worked as a social worker and a school teacher.

The foreman frowned and said, “I have to ask you, have you had any actual experience in picking lemons?”

“Well, as a matter of fact, I have,” she said. “I’ve been divorced three times, owned two Chryslers, voted twice for Obama, and once for Hillary.”

She starts in the morning.

Progressive opinions are never with a firm foundation and as such are always subject to revision and extension. Forever.

So true

NYPOST.COM

Linda Tripp, the tape-recording former pal of Monica Lewinsky who exposed the intern’s affair with President Bill Clinton, broke nearly two decades of silence Tuesday and unloaded on Hillary Clinton.

The 65-year-old Tripp tore into both Clintons, but saved her harshest rhetoric for the former first lady, calling her a power-hungry monster who would do anything to get elected.

“I think the most compelling thing about Hillary is that she will stop at nothing to achieve her end and that she views the public as plebeians easily seduced into believing her point of view,” Tripp told the Daily Mail.

Tripp said Hillary was a key leader in White House efforts to squash “bimbo eruptions,” when the West Wing unleashed quick-fire responses to discredit women claiming to have had affairs with Bubba.

“In this endeavor she was ruthless. She destroyed women so that their stories never saw the light of day,” Tripp said.

The ultimate goal, from Day 1 of Bubba’s administration, was to ensure Hillary would rule 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. someday just like Bill, according to Tripp.

“This has been planned for so many years. I remember one of the quotes in my first week in the Oval Office which was the week after Clinton’s first inauguration,” the former civil servant said.

“Everybody had this little mantra, ‘Eight years for Bill. Eight years for Hill.’ And when I asked a senior person, ‘What does that mean?’ He said, ‘Well eight years for his administration and eight years for hers. So this is a runaway train. Nobody is going to stop it,’ ” Tripp said.

The former Defense Department employee nearly brought down Clinton’s White House by secretly recording her phone calls with her one-time friend Lewinsky.

The intern-turned-paramour poured her heart out to Tripp in the secret tapes, revealing her love for — and sexual encounters with — Clinton.

After Tripp exposed the Lewinsky-Clinton connection, the presidential mistress famously told special prosecutor Kenneth Starr: “I hate Linda Tripp.”

As for betraying her pal Lewinsky, Tripp said she’d do it again.

“I regret what I put my children through. I regret very much that they had to endure that level of vitriol,” Tripp said.“But would I do it again? Yes.”

Tripp and her husband now live in rural Virginia and operate a Christmas store, The Christmas Sleigh.

Good morning

If Tripp hadn’t convinced Lewinsky to keep that blue dress, Lewinsky would be dead by now.

I’m beginning (just beginning) to consider the implications of the power differentials that were so vast between a president and a White House intern,

For a Republican president the MSM would've considered this tantamount to rape.

Horse hockey. She was throwing herself on him and the cigar. BJ wouldn’t have noticed her if she hadn’t flaunted herself at him.
